Box Score 2 WATERBURY, Conn. – Felician College dropped both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader with Post University on Saturday afternoon, losing Game 1, 4-3, before falling in the nightcap, 8-2, at Municipal Stadium.
Leadoff man Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.) and catcher Matt Kleinstein (Marlboro, N.J.) had three hits each on the day for Felician (13-21, 7-7 CACC).
The opening game was decided in the sixth inning. In the visitors' half, Felician erased a 3-1 deficit when Brennan Price (Middlesex, N.J.) stroked an RBI double and came around to score on a single by Andrew LaMura (Brick, N.J.). But Post used a pair of Golden Falcon errors and a run-scoring single by Maxime Robillard (Blainville, Quebec) in the home half of the sixth to move ahead for good.
After Felician put its first two runners on base in the seventh, the Eagles turned to freshman right-hander Nick Arnold (West Islip, N.Y.). The Golden Falcons sacrificed the runners to second and third before Arnold came up with consecutive strikeouts to end the threat. Arnold pitched a perfect eighth and worked around a leadoff double in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.
Post righty Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) (3-3) scattered seven hits over six innings to earn the victory. He struck out three batters and walked three. His Golden Falcon counterpart, John Holland (Jackson, N.J.) (3-5), yielded six hits with five strikeouts over 5 2/3 frames. J.R. Meneses (Lake Worth, Fla.) was 2 for 3 and Kleinstein had a double among two hits for Felician.
The Eagles (11-12, 7-3) scored a run in the second inning of Game 2, then broke the game open with five runs in the third. Designated hitter Trey Fitzgerald (Jupiter, Fla.) delivered the big blow with a three-run double down the right field line.
Graduate right-hander Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) held the Golden Falcons at bay for most of the afternoon. He worked eight innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Joey Picone (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was 3 for 4 with a double for the Eagles.
Kleinstein had an RBI triple in the fifth inning before scoring on a Polgano single to highlight the Felician offense. Golden Falcon junior Gerard De Filippo (East Hanover, N.J.) and Polgano finished with two hits each.
Felician steps out of conference play for a 3:30 p.m. tilt at Molloy College on Wednesday.
