Molloy Pulls Away From Felician In Baseball, 14-7

Box Score

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Molloy College scored in its first seven offensive innings, breaking a 7-7 tie with four runs in the sixth, and earned a 14-7 non-conference baseball victory over visiting Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at Mitchell Field.

Sophomore second-baseman J.R. Meneses (Lake Worth, Fla.) hit two home runs and freshman third-baseman Bruce Strickland (Hazlet, N.J.) went 4 for 5 in defeat for Felician (13-22). Golden Falcon freshman Brandon Torres (Highland Mills, N.Y.) picked up his first career hit with a sixth-inning double.

Nine Felician pitchers combined to allow 14 hits, 11 walks and four hit batsmen, and uncork five wild pitches. Molloy (16-15) used six pitchers of its own, with freshman Joseph Nastasi (South Salem, N.Y.) (1-0) tossing the sixth and seventh innings to gain his first career victory. The contest lasted three hours, 35 minutes.

The Golden Falcons came back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the score with three runs in the top of the fifth. Strickland and Brennan Price (Middlesex, N.J.) began the frame with consecutive doubles, and Meneses capped the rally with a two-run homer to left field, his second longball in as many innings. The Lions tallied a single run in the home half of the fifth, but Felician knotted the score again when Strickland's single plated Torres in the sixth.

Molloy needed only two hits to post its four sixth-inning runs and take the lead for good. Felician issued five walks in the inning, including two with the bases loaded. The Lions tacked on three more scores in the seventh for the final margin, highlighted by a two-run single by Austin Nieves (Glendale, N.Y.).

Felician also had 14 hits on the day, including eight for extra bases. Price had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, and Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2 for 5 with a double. John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was 3 for 5 with three RBI for Molloy.

Felician faces a pivotal Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home doubleheader against Nyack College on Thursday.
