Box Score 2 BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Felician College right-handed pitchers Dean Loucka (Wood-Ridge, N.J.), Danny Naif (Jackson, N.J.) and Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J.) combined on a three-hitter to lead the Golden Falcons to a 3-2 Game 2 victory and a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader with host Concordia (N.Y.) College on Monday afternoon at Clipper Field. Felician had lost its third consecutive game when it dropped the opener, 18-12.
Freshman outfielder Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.) had two hits in each game for Felician (13-17, 7-3 CACC). Concordia is ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers poll.
Loucka (2-2), starting on three days' rest, battled through 5 1/3 innings, dancing into and out of trouble. He issued three walks and two hit batsmen, but surrendered only two hits, both singles. He recorded six strikeouts.
All of Felician's scoring came in the top of the fifth inning. The Golden Falcons loaded the bases with no one out on an error, hit batsman and bunt single. Following a fielder's choice grounder, Polgano snapped the scoreless tie with a two-run single down the left field foul line. Felician plated a third run on Bruce Strickland's (Hazlet, N.J.) groundout.
Sophomore Jason Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) created a run in the sixth for Concordia. He led off with a double, stole third base, and continued home on a wild throw. Loucka was lifted one out later following a single and walk, and Naif escaped the inning without further damage.
Naif tossed a perfect seventh before giving way to Facendo to start the eighth. Facendo gave up an unearned run in the eighth, then worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn his second save of the season. Clipper freshman right-hander Dylan Lawrence (Queens, N.Y.) took the hard luck loss, going the distance on a four-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk. Senior Erik Poldroo (New York, N.Y.) was 2 for 3 for Concordia.
Game 1 featured 34 hits, seven errors, 14 walks and four hit batsmen and lasted three hours, 15 minutes. A two-run single by Strickland in the top of the fourth gave Felician a 5-3 lead, but Concordia (11-8, 5-3) took control with nine runs in the home half of the fourth. Freshman Cameron Crabbe (White Plains, N.Y.) capped the rally with a three-run homerun.
The Clippers tacked on four more runs in the fifth, which took on added significance when the Golden Falcons struck for six runs in the sixth to pull to within 16-11. Sean Rogers (Kendall Park, N.J.) had a two-run double and Branden Shaw (Cooper City, Fla.) was 2 for 2 in the inning. But Concordia got 3 1/3 innings of one-run relief from Dan Karasinski (Staten Island, N.Y.) to hold on.
Concordia out-hit the Golden Falcons, 19-15. Poldroo and Brian Bilello (Lynbrook, N.Y.) also homered for the Clippers, and Crabbe and Mike Manganiello (Levittown, N.Y.) each had three hits and four RBI. Strickland was 4 for 5 with a double and four RBI for Felicain.
Felician faces another CACC regionally-ranked opponent, Chestnut Hill College, in a home doubleheader on Thursday.
