Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Felician University scored 10 fourth-inning runs en route to an 18-8 Game 2 victory and a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader with host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Friday afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. Dominican was triumphant, 3-1, in the day's opening game.
Junior outfielder Andrew LaMura (Brick, N.J.) drove in six runs on the day for Felician (20-16, 9-3 CACC), including five in Game 2. The Golden Falcons, who matched their victory total for all of last season, reached the 20-win plateau for the 11th consecutive year.
After Dominican (12-20, 6-6) got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2, Felician took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the second. Mike Martone (Brick, N.J.) had an RBI single and Ronnie Grant (Burlington, N.J.) followed with a squeeze bunt. After J.R. Menses (Lake Worth, Fla.) drove in a run with a third-inning single, the Golden Falcons broke the game wide open in the fourth.
Felician's 10 runs came on eight hits, including a three-run home run by LaMura. Ralph Caccavale (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a two-run single, and LaMura came around again to drive in a fourth run in the inning with a groundout.
Felician freshman Matt Downey (Elizabeth, N.J.) (1-1) came out of the bullpen to earn his first career victory. Downey allowed no runs on one hit in 1 1/3 innings. LaMura was 2 for 6 with a triple and home run, and Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.) went 3 for 5 with four runs scored. Martone, who drove in three runs, was on base four times, and was one of four other Golden Falcons with a pair of hits. Felician out-hit the Chargers, 16-10.
Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) and Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) had two hits each for Dominican.
Charger junior right-hander Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) (4-2) allowed Felician one run on four hits over eight innings in winning Game 1. He struck out four batters and walked three, and induced the Golden Falcons to hit into three double plays. The only blemish on his record came on LaMura's RBI single in the first inning.
Dominican reached Felician sophomore lefty Polgano (4-1) for two runs in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs and a runner on third base, Jason Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) walked and stole second base before freshman Justin Decker delivered a two-run single to center field. After William Seymour (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) reached Polgano for an RBI single in the third, the game contained no more scoring.
Polgano worked seven innings, giving up seven hits and five walks with six strikeouts. Dominican sophomore Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) retired the Golden Falcons in order in the ninth for his fifth save of the season. Decker and Soto were each 2 for 3.
Felician plays another CACC doubleheader on Saturday at noon at Philadelphia University.
