Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Junior center fielder Andrew LaMura (Brick, N.J.), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead Felician University to a 9-6 non-conference baseball victory over host Adelphi University on Wednesday afternoon at Bonomo Field.
Felician (23-16) defeated Adelphi in Garden City for the second time in eight days. The Golden Falcons have won four consecutive games and 18 of their last 21.
LaMura took over the CACC lead in RBI with 39 in 39 games. He is 10 for 25 with three homers, eight runs scored and 10 RBI in his last five starts.
Felician snapped a 4-4 tie with two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning. Both Brennan Price (Middlesex, N.J.), who had walked, and Jason Polgano (Bronx, N.Y.), who reached when his sacrifice bunt was mishandled for an error, came around to score when another sacrifice, this one off the bat of Matt Kleinstein (Marlboro, N.J.) was thrown errantly.
Adelphi (17-19) pulled to within 6-5 on a sacrifice fly by Eric Hassell (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the home half of the sixth, but the Golden Falcons put their first two runners on base ahead of LaMura to start the seventh. LaMura blasted his second round-tripper of the game over the right-field fence to give the visitors a four-run edge.
After two were out in the bottom of the ninth, the Panthers sent the winning run to the plate. Adelphi loaded the bases on a single sandwiched by two Golden Falcon errors. Kory Cassara (Mastic, N.Y.) drew a walk to force in a run and cause Felician to summon sophomore Danny Naif (Jackson, N.J.) from the bullpen. Naif got the next hitter to ground into a fielder's choice, picking up his sixth save of 2016.
Felician used eight pitchers and the Panthers seven in the mid-week non-conference contest. Golden Falcon junior JanCarlos Brito (West Hempstead, N.Y.) (2-0) tossed the fourth and fifth frames and was the pitcher of record on the positive side. He gave up one run on one hit with one strikeout.
Both teams finished with 12 hits. Price and Ronnie Grant (Burlington, N.J.) were each 2 for 4 with a double for Felician. Adelphi freshman center fielder Jonathon Iadevaia (Commack, N.Y.) was 4 for 4 with two RBI.
The game lasted 3 hours, 32 minutes.
