Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Felician University surrendered 16 hits while mustering only five in its 12-1 non-conference baseball lost to host Molloy College on Monday afternoon at the Mitchel Complex.
The Golden Falcons (27-10) saw a seven-game win streak come to an end. Felician is ranked No. 21 in the latest national NCAA Division II writers' poll.
Molloy (16-20) jumped on top with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. The rally was capped by a two-run single by freshman Jake Saltzman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.). Felician finally broke through against Lion starter Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Ralph Caccavale (Massapequa, N.Y.), but the hosts took full control by plating three more runs on only two hits in the bottom of the fifth.
Molloy tacked on two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth off of the Felician bullpen.
Kelly (5-1) gave up one run on four hits over five innings. He struck out three batters and walked none. Junior right-hander Kevin Hiss (Merrick, N.Y.) worked the final four frames for Molloy to earn his first save. He struck out four batters in a one-hit effort.
Lion leadoff man Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.) was 4 for 5, stole two bases and scored three runs. Teammate Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBI. Senior third baseman J.R. Meneses (Lake Worth, Fla.) was 2 for 3 for Felician.
The Golden Falcons' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Post University on Tuesday has been postponed. The teams will play on Thursday at noon in Waterbury, Conn.
