No. 13 Barry Baseball Stops Felician, 14-1

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Six Felician University pitchers gave up 14 hits and issued 10 walks and a hit batsman during the Golden Falcons' 14-1 non-conference loss to host Barry University on Tuesday evening at Feinbloom Field. Barry (17-4) is ranked No. 13 in the most recent national NCAA Division II writers' poll and No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine version.

Felician leadoff batter Mike Martinez (Union City, N.J.) was on base three times with two doubles and a walk. His hit total represented half of the Golden Falcons' output for the night.

Martinez (0-1) started the contest as the pitcher and designated hitter, but did not escape the first inning on the mound. He faced eight hitters and put six on base, eventually allowing three runs. Barry scored twice on just one hit in the second. After Jake Pellecchia's (Manalapan, N.J.) RBI single put Felician on the scoreboard in the third, the Buccaneers took full control in the bottom of the frame. They put their first four batters on base, receiving a two-run double from Arrison Perez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and an RBI single by J.C. Garcia (Miami, Fla.).

A two-run double by junior Danny Cunningham (Fort Myers, Fla.) capped a four-run fourth for Barry that handed the Buccaneers a 12-1 edge.

Barry junior right-hander Willie Sanchez (Miami, Fla.) (1-0) allowed three hits over six innings with two strikeouts and four walks

Felician plays its next two games against another nationally-ranked squad, New York Institute of Technology, including a 2 p.m. tilt on Thursday during the Palm Beach Challenge in Lantana, Fla.
