Baseball Loses Two To No. 10/13 Millersville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Felician University baseball team ended an eight-day layoff by playing a non-conference doubleheader against host Millersville University on Tuesday afternoon at Cooper Park. Millersville emerged victorious in both contests, taking Game 1, 15-2, before earning a 5-2 Game 2 win.

The teams were meeting for the first time since 2003. The doubleheader was a makeup from a Feb. 26 rainout. The Marauders (12-3) are ranked No. 10 in the most recent national NCAA Division II writers' poll and No. 13 in the Collegiate Baseball version.

Both games were scheduled for seven innings in duration. Felician (1-5) was limited to nine hits in the doubleheader. The Golden Falcons committed three errors in each game, leading to a total of eight unearned runs for Millersville.

Junior catcher Shawn Vazquez (Millville, N.J.) was the only Golden Falcon to pick up a hit in each game.

Millersville broke a 2-2 tie in the nightcap by scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Marauders used three Felician errors, an RBI single by senior Eric Callahan (Columbus, Ohio) and a run-scoring groundout from junior Luke Trainor (Leola, Pa.) to move ahead for good. The visitors had tied the game in the road half of the fifth on two-out RBI singles by Jake Stoller (Merion Station, Pa.) and Vazquez.

Millersville junior right-hander Paul Wilson (Perry Hall, Md.) struck out three consecutive Golden Falcons in the sixth and worked around a two-out Anthony Condito (Nutley, N.J.) single in the seventh to grab his first save of the season. The Marauders' eight hits came from eight different players, including an RBI triple by Cole Friese (Shippensburg, Pa.).

Senior righty Alex Schwartz (Voorhees, N.J.) (0-2) worked through 5 1/3 frames for Felician, giving up two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out four batters and walked one. Stoller finished 2 for 4.

Millersville out-hit Felician, 15-4, during the day's opening game, which was delayed twice by rain. Golden Falcon pitchers also issued eight walks and two hit batsmen. Millersville sophomore Jimmy Losh (New Cumberland, Pa.) opened the scoring with a three-run first-inning home run. The Marauders tacked four runs in the third, then put the game away with five in the fourth.

Losh finished 2 for 3 plus two walks and four RBI. Marauder senior first baseman Jimmy Cain (Elkridge, Md.) went 3 for with three runs scored. Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a pinch-hit double and Pat Faughnan (Union, N.J.) drove in a run for Felician.

The Golden Falcons play the first of a three-game series at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Friday at 6 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
