GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Felician University lost its non-conference baseball game to host Adelphi University, 15-0, on Thursday afternoon at Bonomo Memorial Field. Adelphi was playing its opening game of 2021 and for the first time in nearly a year.

The Golden Falcons are ranked No. 10 and the Panthers No. 3 in the preseason NCAA Division II East Region writers' poll.

Adelphi piled up a 14-1 advantage in hits. Junior third baseman Andrew Florides (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had Felician's lone safety, a fifth-inning single.

The Panthers scored single runs in the first and second innings on RBI doubles by Kyle Olson (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Cooper Johnson (Newington, Conn.), respectively, off Felician starting pitcher Darwin Matos (Clifton, N.J.) (0-1). Adelphi plated two runs in the fourth, then took full control with a five-run fifth off the Golden Falcon bullpen.

Six Adelphi pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters and walk five. Starter Tom Ambrosino (Staten Island, N.Y.) worked four hitless innings, facing one batter over the minimum. Stephen Murphy (Ridge, N.Y.) followed and allowed Florides' hit but was credited with the win.

Felician junior right-hander Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.), a 2019 all-East Region reliever, made his first appearance since that year's NCAA Tournament. Nardulli faced two seventh-inning batters and retired both.

Felician hosts a four-game weekend series with St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Spectators are not allowed to attend games hosted by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference institutions until further notice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and are encouraged to follow conference baseball action at www.caccathletics.org.
