Torres Shines In First Start As Baseball Tops Post, 13-4

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Felician University baseball team produced a season-high run total, scoring in seven of its nine offensive innings for a 13-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball victory over host Post University on Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

Redshirt freshman Alex Torres (Jackson, N.J.) made the most of his first career start. Playing second base, Torres went 3 for 4 with a double, also walked, scored two runs, drove in three and stole three bases.

The Golden Falcons' offensive output came on 10 base hits. Felician (4-9, 2-1 CACC) drew six walks and reached base five times on Eagle errors. Junior first baseman Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, N.J.) was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI.

Senior right-hander Alex Schwartz (Absecon, N.J.) (2-1) started and worked through five innings for the pitching victory. He scattered nine hits, struck out three and walked none, yielding all four Eagle runs. Three Felician relievers – Dwayne Marshall (Piscataway, N.J.), Chris Antonelli (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.) – combined to pitch four one-hit innings and strike out six Post batters.

Post was playing its season opener. The hosts erased an early 3-0 deficit by reaching Schwartz for three runs in the bottom of the second inning. But the Golden Falcons went ahead to stay in the third on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Florides (Glen Cove, N.Y.). Felician tacked on two runs in the fourth before pushing its lead to 7-3 in the fifth on Tavarez's RBI double. Schwartz surrendered a run in the home half of the fifth, then deferred to his bullpen.

Eagle junior shortstop Devon Ogston (Rohnert Park, Calif.) was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Designated hitter Levis Aguila (Miramar, Fla.) scored three runs and Florides drove in a pair for Felician.

The Golden Falcons host Caldwell University in another CACC North Division tilt on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Lyndhurst, N.J.
