Baseball Outscored By Queens, 17-10, In Myrtle Beach Finale

Box Score

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.  – Felician University was defeated by Queens (N.Y.) College 17-10, in non-conference baseball action during the Northeast Challenge on Sunday afternoon at the Ripken Experience. The game concluded a weekend trip to Myrtle Beach for both teams.

Freshman designated hitter Luis De La Cruz (Jersey City, N.J.) was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs batted in for Felician (2-6). Queens sophomore catcher Nick Barreiros (Seaford, N.Y.) had two doubles and a home run and drove in seven runs.

Felician was the designated home team, and emerged from a lengthy first inning with a 7-4 lead, as neither starting pitcher survived the frame. The Golden Falcons' seven runs came on only one base hit, a De La Cruz two-run single which capped the rally.

After inching closer with single runs in the second and third frames, the Knights (3-1) moved ahead for good with a six-run fourth. The scoring began with a solo home run from Louis Antos (West Islip, N.Y.) and ended with a two-run blast by Colin Diez (Levittown, N.Y.). A two-run homer by Barreiros in the top of the sixth capped a three-run inning and gave Queens full control with a 15-8 edge.

The game, which started an hour late due to overrun from previous games, lasted exactly four hours, not including a 15-minute rain delay. The sides combined for 21 hits (14-7 Queens), 18 walks and four hit batsmen.

Antos was on base five times and Jayson Rodopoulos (Scarsdale, N.Y.) (double, home run) joined Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) and Barreiros with three hits each for Queens. Colby Johnson (Frederick, Md.) stroked a pinch-hit double for the Golden Falcons.

Felician plays its home opener on Saturday, March 5, when it entertains nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University in a doubleheader.
