Big Inning Lifts No. 22/26 Molloy Past Baseball, 14-4

Box Score

PALISADES PARK, N.J.  – The Felician University baseball team surrendered eight runs during the fourth inning of its 14-4 non-conference loss to visiting Molloy College on Tuesday afternoon at Overpeck County Park. Molloy (17-5) is ranked No. 22 in the most recent national NCAA Division II writers' poll and No. 26 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper version.

Junior catcher Levis Aguila (Miramar, Fla./Hialeah Gardens) was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored for Felician (7-12). Sophomore third baseman Chris Einemann (Lynbrook, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) paced a 16-hit attack for Molloy, enjoying a 4 for 5 day, plus a walk, with two doubles and four runs scored.

The gametime temperature struggled to reach 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with a strong left-to-right wind making the air feel even chillier. The wind played havoc with several batted balls on the day. However, seven Felician pitchers combined to issue 11 walks and two hit batsmen, while Molloy right-hander Brian Morrissey (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and lefty Robert Lucano (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) allowed no free bases.

Felician moved ahead, 2-0, on RBI doubles by Aguila and Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community) during the bottom of the second inning. Garrett Scavelli (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) put the Lions on the scoreboard with a run-scoring double in the third. Molloy then needed only four hits during their game-changing fourth.

During the decisive rally, the visitors benefited from four walks, a hit batter, and two wild pitches. Molloy's Robby Keane (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) picked up two hits during the inning, including a capping two-run single.

Felician cut its deficit to 9-4 on a two-run double by Nick Vincelli (Waretown, N.J./Spotswood) during the home half of the fourth. But the Golden Falcons never again dented the scoreboard. Lucano (1-0) was credited with the victory after tossing five innings of shutout relief. He gave up five hits and struck out five batters. Fernandez finished 2 for 4 for the hosts.

Felician was playing its eighth game of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent (at time of game). The Golden Falcons are 2-6 in those contests.

The Golden Falcons return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, making the short trip to Caldwell University for a 2 p.m. contest.
