Box Score FLEMINGTON, N.J. – A tiebreaking pinch-hit run-scoring single by sophomore Colby Johnson (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Felician University to a 4-3 non-conference baseball victory over visiting Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday afternoon at Diamond Nation. Felician (3-8) salvaged the final game of the teams' three-game weekend series and earned a split of their four scheduled regular-season games this season.
Southern New Hampshire (6-2) entered the day ranked No. 12 in the national NCAA Division II writers' poll.
Felician entered the seventh inning trailing, 3-1. But Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) was hit with a one-out pitch and Levis Aguila (Miramar, Fla./Hialeah Gardens) followed with a double. Another two-bagger by sophomore Michael Kuver (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) drove in both runners, tying the score and forcing a pitching change.
A groundout moved Kuver to third and the Golden Falcons called on Johnson. The lefty-swinger grounded a full-count pitch up the middle, bringing home Kuver with the go-ahead run. Felician freshman right-hander Dylan Morrill (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) worked out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the eighth then retired the Penmen in order in the ninth for his first collegiate victory.
Morrill (1-0) pitched the final four innings, allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Luis De La Cruz (Jersey City, N.J.) drove in Felician's other run with a first-inning groundout.
For the Penmen, Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) went 3 for 4 and Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass./Greater Lawrence Regional Tech) had two hits, stole two bases and scored twice. All seven of SNHU's base hits were singles.
Felician begins a four-game swing to Palm Beach County with a Mar. 11 date with St. Thomas Aquinas College. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lantana, Fla.
