Box Score STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Down to its final out, the Felician University baseball team came up with four runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on for a 5-3 non-conference baseball victory over host East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday afternoon at Creekview Park. East Stroudsburg (26-13) is ranked No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division II Atlantic Region writers' poll
Felician (15-17) trailed, 3-1, after eight frames, and saw its first two batters set down in the ninth. But Shawn Vazquez (Millville, N.J.) drew an eight-pitch walk and pinch-runner Lance Mumford (Brandon, Fla.) advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Alex Torres (Jackson, N.J.). Following another walk and a pitching change, freshman Luis De La Cruz (Jersey City, N.J.) tied the game with an RBI, and Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, N.J.) followed with a go-ahead two-run double.
Graduate right-hander Ralph Gambino (Manalapan, N.J.) hit the first two Warrior batters with pitches in the bottom of the ninth. The runners never moved, however, as Gambino induced a pop-up, strikeout and groundout to capture his first collegiate save.
Graduate righty Nick Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y.), the fifth of six Felician pitchers, was credited with the victory. Nardulli (1-0), who tossed a scoreless eighth, earned his first win since defeating Assumption College, also in relief, during the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Warrior freshman righty Alec Snyder (Easton, Pa.) took the hard-luck no-decision. Snyder yielded four hits, two walks and a hit batsman in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six Golden Falcons, and the only blemish on his line came from the final batter he faced, a pinch-hit RBI single by Colby Johnson (Frederick, Md.) in the seventh.
The Golden Falcons defeated ESU for the first time since 2005.
Senior second baseman Anthony Torreullas (New Holland, Pa.) was 2 for 3 with a double for the Warriors. Felician junior catcher Levis Aguila (Miramar, Fla.) went 2 for 4.
Felician makes up a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest with Post University on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Palisades Park, N.J.
