Box Score 3 MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - Felician Baseball opens up its 2023 campaign with its first trip down to Morehead City, N.C. last week for the MHC President's Day Weekend Tournament. The squad ended the weekend with a 1-3 record as they faced Millersville University and Assumption University in doubleheaders.
The Golden Falcons played the Marauders in game one and two of the weekend. The green-and-gold dropped 8-2 and 12-3 respectively with starting pitchers, Wilfrido Valenzuela (Paterson, NJ) and Nick DeCarlo (Barnegat, NJ), picking up the losses in the events. In game one, Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, NJ) punched his first homerun of the season along with Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, FL), both batting 1-3 with a RBI.
In game two, Felician held a 2-0 lead over Millersville up until the 5th inning where the Marauders went on to score four to ultimately take the 12-3 win. Current Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week, Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, FL), went 1-3 with one homerun, 2 RBI's and three walks. Jack Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, NJ) posted his second homerun of the day going 2-4 with an RBI.
On Saturday, the Golden Falcons went into game three and four against Assumption University. In the first game of the doubleheader, Felician pulled out the 5-4 win with Ralph Gambino (Freehold, NJ) clinching the win. Both squads were tied at 4-4 by the end of the 3rd inning. Leading into the top of the 9th, Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, NJ) stood on second as Walters was able to bring him home for the 5-4 win. Moving forward to the second game, Assumption answered back with the 8-7 win.
Felician Baseball currently sits at 1-3 overall. The squad will be down in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Feb. 23-26 to face #6 Southern New Hampshire University, Mercy College, Southern Connecticut State, and the College of Staten Island.
