Baseball Sweeps Bridgeport in Conference Doubleheader

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Felician baseball kicked off its Friday afternoon with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader of the three-game series with the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. The green-and-gold ended up sweeping the Purple Knights with a two-game shutout, 4-0 and 6-0 respectively.  

GAME ONE:

Cole Porter (River Vale, NJ) went 3-3 with a run, an RBI and two doubles while Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, NJ) and Anthony Lamar (Freeport, NY) went 4-2 with an RBI and a double each. Nick DeCarlo (Barnegat, NJ) pitched 7.0 innings, only allowing three hits, but striking out 11.

The first run of the afternoon wouldn't happen until the top of the sixth inning when Tavarez singled to right field to send Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, NJ) home to give Felician the 1-0 lead. After 2 runs and 4 hits in the eighth, the Golden Falcons found themselves edging the hosts 3-0.

By the ninth inning, Porter gave the squad its final run of game one after a RBI double to take the game one victory.

GAME TWO:

Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, FL) led the Golden Falcons to a game two win for the series sweep and shut out as he went 2-3 with three RBIs, two runs, and a homerun. Kendrick posted two RBI's of his own while going 1-3 with a walk.

The senior ignited the second inning with a 2 RBI triple to have the Golden Falcons hold a 2-0 advantage to start game two. Kendrick sent home Fernandez on a fielder's choice to end the second inning with a 3-0 lead.

By the sixth, Felician would record two more runs from Fernandez's homerun and when Jose David Medrano (North Bergen, NJ) stole home after a error on the Purple Knights catcher.

Wilfrido Valenzuela (Paterson, NJ) earned his second win of the season as he struck out nine.

With the afternoon sweep, Baseball improved to 13-18 overall and 6-2 in the conference. They will be off this weekend as they prepare for an on the road contest against Alliance University for a doubleheader at 2:00pm.
