Box Score WATERBURY, CT – Felician baseball is sailing through the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Playoffs. The Golden Falcons entered the winner's bracket and went up against S#2 Goldey-Beacom College Friday morning to down the Lightening, 8-3 on a tremendous pitching performance from Mike Caldon (Matawan, NJ).
The right-handed pitcher went 7.0 innings to give up two of the opposer runs but struck out eight to secure his fifth win of the season.
The Golden Falcons were on the board first with a two-run second inning. With two baserunners in scoring position, Julian Uejima (River Edge, NJ) earned an RBI on a ground out to send home the first run of the afternoon while Thomas Kendrick (Jackson, NJ) drew in the second on a RBI single to right field which gave Felician the 2-0 advantage.
By the fourth inning, the green-and-gold extended its lead to 6-0 when the squad posted four runs ignited by Haiden Walters (Coral Springs, FL), Cole Porter (River Vale, NJ) and Dauri Genao (West New York, NJ) RBI at bats. Felician recorded one more run until the Lightning put Caldon in trouble with bases loaded in the bottom half of the sixth. With two outs, the starter ended the inning with minimal damage allowing one run to have Goldey-Beacom avoid the shut out, 7-1.
The opposers would record a run in each consecutive inning until Logan Waltz (Hazlet, NJ) halted the Lightening in the ninth for the 8-3 win.
Genao went 3-5 with one RBI, Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, FL) went 2-5 with two runs and Uejima went 1-3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Golden Falcons will be back in action tomorrow for the championship round against the winner of N#1 Post University and S#2 Goldey-Beacom College at 11:00am in Waterbury, CT. The double elimination schedule stands as Post/Goldey-Beacom will have to win two tomorrow to defeat Felician while the green-and-gold only need to win once for the championship title.
