Box Score 2 FLEMINGTON, NJ – Felician baseball was back at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ to host its Senior Day Celebration in the 7-7 doubleheader with Chestnut Hill College Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Falcons highlighted the careers of Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, NJ), Wilfrido Valenzuela (Paterson, NJ), Hakim Salaam (Vineland, NJ), Cam Price (Tomkins Cove, NY), Dauri Genao (West New York, NJ), Ryan Kurczeski (Freehold, NJ), Chris Fernandez (Boca Raton, FL), Alex Torres (Jackson, NJ), Jake Pellecchia (Manalapan, NJ), and Ralph Gambino (Freehold, NJ) in between the contests.
GAME ONE:
The green-and-gold snagged the 7-5 game one win after a four run third inning ignited by a Genao single.
To start the third, Felician held a 2-0 advantage over the Griffins until the opposers saw its first lead of the afternoon after recording three runs in the top half of the inning. After Genao's RBI at bat, Cole Porter (River Vale, NJ) switched the score into Felician's favor after reaching home on a passed ball, 4-3. Anthony Lamar (Freeport, NY) and Fernandez drew in two more runs for the 6-3 lead.
The Griffins cut the deficit to one, 6-5, after the fourth but Jose David Medrano (North Bergen, NJ) gave the Golden Falcons a safety net sending home another run for the 7-5 advantage and ultimately the game one victory.
Tavarez went 2-2 with three runs while Porter went 1-2 with one run and two walks. Gambino secured the win from the mound with 3.2 IP and four strikeouts and Mike Caldon (Matawan, NJ) recorded the save with three strikeouts.
GAME TWO:
In the top half of the first inning of game two, the Griffins answered back to the loss by posting 13 runs on six hits to put the Golden Falcons down big. Fernandez picked up the green-and-gold by slamming a double to eventually touch home on a throwing error for the first run of the contest. With one out and a man on first, Salaam recorded his first career homerun for two more Felician runs. By the end of the inning, the Golden Falcons trailed 13-4.
Felician would record its final run in the third inning while the Griffins kept piling on to give the Golden Falcons the game two loss, 19-7.
Fernandez went 3-3 with two with two runs and an RBI, Salaam went 1-3 with three RBIs, and Julian Uejima (River Edge, NJ) went 2-3 with one run and an RBI.
The baseball squad wraps up its regular season with a 20-29 overall and 13-12 CACC record. After today's results, the Golden Falcons are projected to sit at the two-seed in the North Division to host the first round of the CACC playoffs this Friday. Location and time TBD.
