Box Score MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- Three Felician College pitchers combined to give up five runs in the top of the eighth inning as the Golden Falcons lost to Molloy College, 11-6, in non-conference baseball action Friday evening at Big Rock Stadium. The game marked the 2012 season opener for both schools.
Felician, the designated home team, fell behind, 5-1, after 5 1/2 innings, but came back to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ) and sophomore Chris Ayala (Marlboro, NJ) had RBI singles in the frame, and the Golden Falcons scored a pair of runs on wild pitches. Molloy went back ahead with a run off of reliever Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ) (0-1) in the seventh, but Felician answered with a two-out, two-strike RBI hit from Farrell to re-knot the score.
The Lions, however, reached Godfrey for the go-ahead run in the eighth on a walk, wild pitch, and a one-out run-scoring single from Frank Marchisello. Another hit chased Godfrey, and Molloy tacked on four runs off he Golden Falcon bullpen on two hits, two walks and an error. Five Felician errors on the night led to six unearned runs.
Farrell finished 3 for 5 with two RBI and Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL) had two hits for Felician. Carmine Pellechia (2 RBI) and Kris Kelly (2 runs) each picked up a pair hits for Molloy. The Lions John Jarosz picked up the victory with 2 2/3 innings of one-run relief, striking out four.
Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ) started on the mound for the Golden Falcons, striking out five batters in four innings.
