Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Felician College baseball team used a pair of late-inning rallies to earn two come-from-behind non-conference victories on Saturday at the Ripken Experience complex. Felician (4-3) defeated regionally-ranked Molloy College, 3-2, in its morning game before coming back Saturday afternoon to down LIU-C.W. Post, 6-4. Freshman pitcher Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ) scored the winning run as a pinch-runner in the early game before earning his first collegiate victory against C.W. Post.
In the Golden Falcons' first game of the day, Molloy scored single runs in the second and third innings off of Felician starter Stephen Paladino (Brooklyn, NY) (5 IP, 4H, 4 SO, 4 BB). The Lions carried that 2-0 lead into the ninth inning, as Felician could do little with Molloy right-hander Max Schonfeld (East Meadow, NY).
Schonfeld departed after eight innings, having struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits. But in the bottom of the ninth, Felician pounced on the Lion bullpen, loading the bases with none out on a double, single and walk. Jay Collazo (Wall Township, NJ) got the Golden Falcons on the scoreboard when he beat the throw to home plate on Jimmy Simpson's (Biscayne Park, FL) fielder's choice grounder. George Hajjar (Utica, NY) was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run, and following a pitching change, Chris Ayala (Marlboro, NJ) singled up the middle to plate Fowler and end the game.
Golden Falcon freshman righty Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ) (1-1) pitched four innings of one-hit relief to earn his first career win. Godfrey struck out three and walked none in facing the minimum 12 batters. Carlos Guzman (Bloomingburg, NY) went 2 for 4 for Molloy (4-2), the No. 8-ranked team in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers' poll.
In its afternoon game, Felician, the designated visiting team, erased a 4-0 deficit with three runs each in the seventh and eighth innings. Fowler made the comeback stand up by pitching the final 2 2/3 innings in scoreless fashion, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.
Junior designated hitter Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ) began the Golden Falcon comeback with a two-run home with none out in the seventh, chasing Pioneer starter Mike Eckerle (Hewlett, NY). Casey Phillips (Englewood, FL) added an RBI single later in the frame.
In the eighth, Felician loaded the bases with no one out before Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ) delivered a run-scoring single to tie the contest. A fielder's choice grounder by Simpson brought home Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ) with the go-ahead run, and another run scored on an error on the play.
Eckerle yielded two hits and struck out eight in his six-plus innings. Golden Falcon starter Jerry Vasto (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with five strikeouts in a no-decision. Leadoff man Matt Simone (West Islip, NY) was 2 for 4 with an RBI triple for the Pioneers (1-2).
