Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – A three-run sixth inning lifted Queens (N.Y.) College to a 5-4 Game 2 victory and a sweep of its non-conference softball doubleheader over host Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at Matera Field. Queens out-hit the Golden Falcons, 9-1, in winning Game 1, 5-1. Felician was playing its 2012 home openers. Freshman shortstop Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, CA/Riverbank) went 3 for 7 on the day for Felician.
In the decisive top of the sixth of the nightcap, Queens (3-1) loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk off of Felician right-hander Tori Bradburn (Ridge, MD/Great Mills) (0-4). Knight shortstop Samantha Mattson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) then lined a double down the left field line, clearing the bases and giving Queens the lead for good. Freshman pitcher Isabelle Yaroch (Annandale, VA/Annandale) came out of the bullpen to get the last six outs, striking out three, for her first save.
Felician (1-15) had scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, MD/Harford Tech) drove in the first run with a groundout, and two batters later, Joelle Erickson (Huntington Beach, CA/Marina) put the Golden Falcons ahead with a two-run single. Erickson advanced to second on the throw home, and Lopez capped the rally with an RBI single to right field.
Lopez and sophomore Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA/Edison) had two hits apiece for the Golden Falcons. Bradburn yielded five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out three. Sophomore Nicole Turato (Garden City, NY/Carey) (2-0) got the win for the Knights, giving up four runs on six hits with six strikeouts in five innings. Teammate Carla Pennolino (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep) was 3 for 3.
Yaroch (1-1) tossed a one-hitter in Game 1 for her first career victory. She allowed no earned runs, struck out two batters and walked two. Queens scored all five of its runs (three earned) in the fifth inning off of Felician right-hander Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA/Ramona) (0-8). A Golden Falcon error started the inning, and the Knights went on to add five hits and a walk. Melissa Natale (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) highlighted the frame with a two-run double.
Lopez singled to right-center field leading off the sixth inning to break up Yaroch's no-hit bid. She advanced on a passed ball, stole third and scored the Golden Falcon run on Trujillo's groundout. Tenwolde gave up seven hits, struck out three and walked one in five innings.
