Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Goldey-Beacom College earned a pair of come-from-behind victories in sweeping its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from host Felician College, 8-4 and 10-8, on Saturday afternoon at Matera Field. The games marked the 2012 CACC openers for both schools.
Despite the losses, Felician freshman infielder Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA/Del Oro) had four hits and drove in five runs on the day.
In Game 1, Goldey-Beacom (11-4, 2-0) broke a 2-2 tie with six unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning. Winning pitcher Roni Peters (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) reached on an error to start the inning and eventually scored the go-ahead run. Following a second Golden Falcon miscue, Samantha Alonzo (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) had a two-run single and Danie Rice (Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Regional) a three-run home run. Clark stroked a two-run double in the bottom of the inning before Peters eventually set down the side.
Felician (1-17, 0-2) had scored single runs in each of the first two innings. Right-hander Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA/Ramona) (0-9) made the lead stand up until the Lightning struck for a pair of runs on Cailin Cavanaugh's (Newark, DE/Newark) triple in the sixth. Tenwolde allowed eight hits in a complete-game effort, striking out five batters and walking none.
Clark finished 2 for 4 with three RBI, and teammate Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, CA/Riverbank) had three walks and scored twice.
The Lightning scored four runs in the seventh to erase a 7-4 Game 2 deficit. Clark produced a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but a two-run single by Michelle Foster (West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) in the ninth provided the winning margin for the Lightning. With the international tiebreaker in effect, Shannon O'Hara (LaPlata, MD/LaPlata), the third GBC pitcher of the game, retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.
O'Hara gave up two hits and no walks in 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Foster reached base six times in the contest (3 for 3, 3 walks) and drove in three runs.
Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo) went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Felician and Clark, who also drove in a pair, was one of four other Golden Falcons with two hits. Felician reliever Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA/Bradshaw Christian) (0-3) was saddled with the loss, yielding two runs on four hits in three innings.
