Felician Pitching Dominant In Sweep Of USciences

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Headed by senior right-handed starters Brian Dudzinski (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) and D.J. Stinsman (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/EHT), the Felician College pitching staff limited visiting University of the Sciences to a combined three base hits in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of the Devils, 3-1 and 5-0, on Saturday evening at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. The games marked the 2012 CACC openers for both schools.

In Game 1, Dudzinski (1-4) allowed one hit over six shutout innings. He worked himself into trouble on occasion with four walks and four hit batsmen, but escaped damage with the help of a season-high 10 strikeouts. U-Sciences left 12 men on base, including the bases loaded in the fifth and again off of reliever Kenny Monteith (Denville, NJ/Morristown-Beard) in the seventh.

Devil starter Nick Kuklane (Kingsville, MD/Perry Hall) (1-1) matched Dudzinski zero for zero until the fifth, when Felician's George Hajjar (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) led off with a single, stole second and third bases, and scored one out later on a groundout by Korey McGuiness (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty). Kuklane pitched six innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

The Golden Falcons (9-12, 2-0) extended their lead in the sixth on a two-out RBI triple by Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood). Following a walk, Felician worked a first-and-third double-steal, with Petosa swiping home for a 3-0 edge. U-Sciences's Dennis Murphy (Mullica Hill, NJ/St. Joseph's Prep) reached Monteith for a run-scoring single in the eighth to close the scoring.

Felician freshman right-hander Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ/Millville) pitched two hitless innings to earn his first career save. Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) went 2 for 3 with a walk and two stolen bases for the Golden Falcons.

Stinsman and three relievers combined on a one-hit shutout in the nightcap. Stinsman (1-3) struck out six and walked four in six innings. Jay Andrews (Springfield, Australia/Hunter Sports) had an infield single for the Devils (4-6, 0-2) in the second inning. The Golden Falcons' Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) (2 strikeouts), Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) (3), and Stephen Paladino (Brooklyn, NY/St. Peter's Boys) (1) tossed an inning apiece to finish the shutout.

After Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third, Felician broke the game open with four fifth-inning runs. Following an RBI single by Petosa, Farrell blasted a two-run triple to left-center field. Hajjar then plated Farrell with a sacrifice fly.

Zudonyi finished 2 for 4 and scored twice. Felician drew 12 walks in the contest to complement its six hits. For the twinbill, Golden Falcon pitching struck out 25 batters.
