Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – A seventh-inning rally by Felician College fell one run short as the Golden Falcons lost Game 2 of their non-conference softball doubleheader to visiting Pace University, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Matera Field. Pace had also won the evening's opening game, 3-0. Felician freshman infielder Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA/Del Oro) went 3 for 7 on the night.
Felician (2-24) trailed, 3-1, heading into the home half of the seventh inning of the nightcap. After one was out, the Golden Falcons loaded the bases on an error and two singles. Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo) drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder, and no one was retired on the play when the throw to third base for the force was dropped. However Pace freshman pitcher Kayla Hill (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) (4-0) then induced a force at the plate and another groundout for the victory.
Pace (16-4) broke open a 1-1 game with two runs in the third inning. Following a Felician error, Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) lined an RBI double and teammate Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) followed with a triple.
Felician right-hander Micki Keltos (Shelton, CT/St. Joseph) (1-2) was saddled with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits in three innings. Tori Bradburn (Ridge, MD/Great Mills) kept the Golden Falcons in contention, striking out six batters in four innings of scoreless relief. Clark and Katie Heflin (Escalon, CA/Escalon) had two hits apiece for Felician, which left 11 runners on base.
Hill went the distance in the circle, scattering eight hits. Jean Drury (Flanders, NJ) hit a solo home run for the Setters.
Felician fell victim to a two-hit shutout by Pace freshman right-hander Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (4-2) in Game 1. McCann struck out two batters and walked one, and did not allow a Golden Falcon to reach third base.
Felician junior Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA/Ramona) (1-12) matched zeroes with McCann for five innings. After allowing a first inning single, Tenwolde retired 14 consecutive batters until the Setters scratched across a sixth inning run on a bunt hit, sacrifice, passed ball and an RBI single from Sabrina Gonzalez (Oxnard, CA/Pacifica). Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the final margin.
Clark and Grace Keller (Hoboken, NJ/Holy Family Academy) had the Felician safeties. Nicole Schultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) was 2 for 3 for Pace.
