Farrell Lifts Baseball To Split At Nyack

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

POMONA, N.Y. – Junior third-baseman Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ) had four hits, including the go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning, to lift Felician College to an 8-5 Game 2 victory over host Nyack College and a split of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Provident Bank Park. Farrell also hit a two-run home run in Felician's 4-3 Game 1 loss.

In the nightcap, Nyack (13-9, 3-1 CACC) built a 5-2 lead after four innings. The Golden Falcons, however, received a two-run home run from senior George Hajjar (Utica, NY) in the sixth off of Warrior starter Wayne Richardson (Wallington, NJ) (6 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) to cut the deficit. In the seventh, Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL) and Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ) picked up one-out singles off of reliever Michael Teti (Boca Raton, FL) (0-3), and Farrell followed with a double to left center to score both runners.

Felician freshman right-hander Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ) (1-0) picked up his first career victory with three innings of relief work. Facendo worked around six hits, gave up an unearned run, struck out four batters and walked none. D.J. Stinsman (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) pitched hitless ball in the seventh and eighth innings, and the Golden Falcons tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth. The Warriors brought the tying run to the plate with none out off of Stephen Paladino (Brooklyn, NY) in the bottom half, but Paladino retired the next three hitters for his second save.

Farrell was 4 for 5 and scored twice, and Simpson and Miguel Hidalgo (Ridgefield, NJ) had two hits apiece for Felician (11-15, 4-2). Nyack's John Kennedy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) was 3 for 5 with a double.

Kennedy's RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh of the day's opening game broke a 3-3 tie and carried Nyack to victory. Warrior senior Kevin Earlie (Moriches, NY) (6-0), the CACC's wins leader, limited Felician to four hits over eight innings, and teammate Craig Jacobs (Hawthorne, NJ) pitched a hitless ninth for his first save.

Earlie held the Golden Falcons in check through five innings before Farrell's opposite field homer in the top of the sixth gave Felician a 2-1 advantage. The Warriors came right back in the bottom of the sixth, touching up Felician freshman right-hander Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ) (1-3) for a pair of runs on Phil Delisle's (Quebec, Canada) two-run double. Felician knotted the score in the seventh on a fielding error.

Godfrey allowed eight hits and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings. Delisle and Kris Chatman (Fort Lauderdale, FL) had two hits each for Nyack in a game interrupted for 37 minutes by rain.
