Simpson Reaches Milestone In Baseball's Loss

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician College senior shortstop Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL/Coral Gables) had two hits, including the 100th of his career, in Felician College's 13-4 non-conference baseball loss to visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Friday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.

Simpson singled in the first inning. He then reached the milestone with a two-out double to right-center field in the third, and later scored on a double by Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood). Simpson is the 19th player in Felician history, and second this season, to reach 100 career hits.

Felician (11-16) carried a 4-1 lead into the fifth inning, when the Chargers picked up six runs on just three hits, chasing Golden Falcon starting pitcher Steven Harrison (Boca Raton, FL/Boca Raton Community) (0-1). Christopher Gonzales (Bronx, NY/Sullivan CC) had a two-run single and Tyler Sadawske (Waukesha, WI/Milwaukee Area Tech) a two-run triple in the inning. Dominican would tack on six runs against the Felician bullpen in the late innings.

Caleb Olesen (Selden, NY/Newfield) (1-0) hurled 2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief for the victory, and Victor Cosme (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) finished with three perfect innings for his first save. Sadawske (3 RBI) and Oliver Christensen (Coral Springs, FL/Coral Glades) had three hits apiece for the Chargers. Dominican stole eight bases in the contest, including three by Christensen.

Miguel Hidalgo (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Memorial) had a triple among nine Felician hits. Freshman reserves Mike Mazza (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and Eric Pecoraro (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) each picked up their first career hit. Harrison gave up five earned runs on four hits, struck out six and walked six in 4 2/3 innings.
