STAC Outlasts Felician Baseball, 10-9

Box Score

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Felician College's attempted comeback from a seven-run deficit fell one run short in its 10-9 non-conference baseball loss to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday afternoon at Dick Brown Park. Felician (4-11) left a season-high 15 runners on base.

Felician, the designated visiting team, scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ) and Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ) had run-scoring singles in the frame. But St. Thomas Aquinas scored 10 consecutive runs through the sixth inning, including chasing Felician starting pitcher D.J. Stinsman (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) (0-3) with a four-run fifth.

The Golden Falcons loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, and cashed in on a two-run single by Korey McGuiness (Jackson, NJ) and a bases-loaded walk to Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL). Felician then scored three runs without the benefit of a base hit in the eighth.

But in both innings, the Golden Falcons left the bases loaded. Matt Marrotta (Suffern, NY), the ninth Spartan pitcher of the day, got the final out of the eighth, then retired Felician in order in the top of the ninth for his second save of the season.

Petosa (two walks, three runs scored) and George Hajjar (Utica, NY) had two hits each for Felician, and Simpson had a hit, three walks and two RBI. Joe Antenucci (Westwood, NJ) went 3 for 4 with three RBI and three stolen bases for STAC (5-4). Ken Frawley (White Plains, NY) (1-1), the Spartans' third pitcher, pitched three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief, for the victory.

The game lasted 3 hours, 39 minutes. The teams combined for 20 hits, 22 walks, 5 hit batters, and six wild pitches.
