Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Adelphi University used a 14-hit attack, including eight in an eight-run fourth inning, to earn an 11-3 non-conference baseball victory over host Felician College on Tuesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Adelphi trailed, 2-0, after three innings, but put its first two runners on base in the fourth off of Felician right-hander Stephen Paladino (Brooklyn, NY/St. Peter's Boys) (2-2). The Panthers (12-15) tied the game on a triple by Richard Mejia (Jackson, NJ/Perkiomen School), and went ahead on Jamie Liebowitz's (Queens, NY/Cardoza) run-scoring groundout.
The visitors then got a break in re-starting their rally. Following a walk, a potential double-play grounder by Tyler Barrett (Newington, CT/Newington) struck the umpire for a base hit. Adelphi took advantage with three more hits in a row, the big blow a three-run triple from freshman catcher Rich Cambria (Sound Beach, NY/Rocky Point). The Panthers' Anthony Zarella (Holbrook, NY/St. John the Baptist) had two hits in the inning.
Adelphi freshman right-hander Mike Cranston (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) made the lead stand up, allowing one earned run on four hits over six innings. Cranston (3-0) struck out five batters and walked two in his first career start.
Miguel Hidalgo (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Memorial) drove in two runs for Felician (15-17) with a double in the second inning and a single in the eighth. He produced the only multi-hit game in the Golden Falcons' eight-hit night. Korey McGuiness (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) plated Hidalgo with a second-inning sacrifice fly.
Despite the rocky outing, Paladino moved into third place on Felician's all-time strikeout list with 132. He fanned three but gave up nine hits in four innings. Golden Falcon pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters on the night, including five in two innings by Kenny Monteith (Denville, NJ/Morristown-Beard).
Zarrella finished 4 for 5 with a double and two RBI and Justin Farnum (Glendale, NY/Monsignor McClancy) went 3 for 6 with a triple and scored twice for the Panthers.
