Bloomfield Shuts Down Felician Offense

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – One day after plating 21 runs, the Felician College offense was held scoreless in a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball losses to host Bloomfield College, 4-0 and 2-0, on Thursday afternoon at Clark's Pond South. In two combined shutouts by the Deacons, Felician (8-30, 6-12) was held to two base hits in the opening game, then had two runners cut down at home plate in the nightcap.

Felician's best chance to score in Game 1 came right away, when they loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning on two walks and a hit batsman. However, Bloomfield starting pitcher Lindsey Ciresa (Whitehouse, NJ) worked out of trouble with a strikeout and a fielder's choice grounder.

The Deacons replaced Ciresa with junior right-hander Alexandria Smith (Killeen, TX) to start the second, and Smith allowed only one Golden Falcon runner as far as second base the rest of the way. Smith (8-4) allowed two singles, struck out 10 batters, and walked one in six innings.

Junior Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA) (5-16) pitched a complete-game for Felician, giving up three earned runs on nine hits. She struck out four Deacons and walked none. Bloomfield (23-14, 9-7) plated an unearned run in the second inning, when, after an error extended the frame, Smith delivered an RBI double.

Daliana Perez (Jersey City, NJ) hit a two-out, two-run home run for Bloomfield in the fifth inning, and Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, HI) added an RBI single in the sixth. Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ) and Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, MD) had the Felician hits.

Game 2 saw Felician freshman Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA) and Deacon sophomore Ally Schraer (Paramus, NJ) locked in a pitchers' duel. Both teams had a runner thrown out at home in the second inning, preserving the scoreless tie into the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Smith and Ashton Corley (Escondido, CA) produced back-to-back two-out doubles to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Smith then relieved Schraer (10-5) to start the sixth, and the Golden Falcons put runners on second and third with one out. But Corley, who had just been moved to center field after starting the game at catcher, threw out Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA) at home on Taylor Parker's (Surrey, B.C.) fly ball to deep center to preserve the Bloomfield lead.

Bloomfield added an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, and Smith worked around a two-out single in the seventh for her second save. Corley finished 3 for 3 for the Deacons.

Chase (1-6) tossed her first career complete game for Felician, allowing one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Parker went 2 for 3.
