Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician College pitchers Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA/Ramona) and Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA/Bradshaw Christian) earned complete game victories, combining to allow one run on eight hits, as the Golden Falcons swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from visiting Chestnut Hill College, 10-1 and 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Matera Field.
Tenwolde (6-16) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of Game 1 before allowing a run on three hits in what proved to be the game's final inning. Chase (3-7), a true freshman, tossed her first collegiate shutout in Game 2, a seven-inning five-hitter. Felician sophomore third-baseman Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA/Edison) drove in four runs and scored four in the twinbill.
With the victories, Felician (11-31, 9-13 CACC) remained alive in the race for a CACC playoff berth. The Golden Falcons trail the eighth and final spot by two games with four league contests remaining. They travel to 12th-place Concordia (N.Y.) College on Tuesday, then host 5th-place University of the Sciences on Apr. 21.
In Sunday's first game, Felician took advantage of multiple miscues by the Griffins (2-24, 2-18), as only three of the 10 runs charged to Chestnut Hill pitcher Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA/Rosamond) (1-10) were earned. The Golden Falcons led, 6-0, after two innings, then put the game away with a four-run fourth.
Trujillo was 2 for 2 plus a walk with three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA/Del Oro) hit a solo home run and was on base three times for the hosts. Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) had a two-run triple in Felician's five-run second inning, and Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo) was 2 for 3.
Tenwolde retired her first 11 batters before hitting Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, NJ/St. Joseph's) with two outs in the fourth. Benson broke up the no-hitter by singling through the right side to lead off the fifth, and promptly scored on teammate Gina DeAnnutis's (Hammonton, NJ/St. Joseph's) triple. Tenwolde retired the side without further damage to end the game.
The hustle of senior outfielder Grace Keller (Hoboken, NJ/Holy Family Academy) put the Golden Falcons ahead to stay in Game 2. With CHC hurler Mandi Rush (Royersford, PA/Springford) working on a perfect game with two outs in the fifth, Keller beat out a topper near home plate. She alertly stole second base when no one was covering after her hit, went to third on Halei Van Dyke's (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) base hit to right, and scored on a throwing error on the play.
Helped by two Griffin errors, Felician took full control with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Trujillo's two-run double.
Chase escaped trouble in the early innings by inducing a pair of double plays, then settled down to retire 10 consecutive batters. With two on and two out in the sixth she was able to get out of the jam with a groundout, then pitched a perfect seventh.
