Softball Sweeps Concordia With Complete Effort

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Felician College played errorless, and at times sparkling, defense and turned in 19 base hits in sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from host Concordia (N.Y.) College, 7-1 and 8-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Clipper Field. Felician (13-31, 11-13 CACC) has won five consecutive games and nine of its last 12.

Sophomore second-baseman Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ) went 5 for 7 on the day with a double, two triples, and three runs batted in. Freshman first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA) was 3 for 6 with two doubles and five RBI.

After Tuesday's games, Felician sits in eighth place in the CACC, based on winning percentage, and has two conference games remaining. The CACC regular season ends Saturday, and the top eight teams will reach the league playoffs. The Golden Falcons will know more about their playoff scenarios after more league action takes place Thursday and Friday, in advance of their home twinbill against the University of the Sciences on Saturday.

In Game 1, Felician staked pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA) to an early lead with four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. Clark got the Golden Falcons on the board with a two-run single and scored on Grace Keller's (Hoboken, NJ) hit. A triple from Van Dyke plated Keller and capped the rally.

Tenwolde (7-16) enjoyed only one perfect inning in her complete-game victory, but stranded seven Concordia runners and induced three ground-ball double plays. She scattered nine hits, struck out three batters, and walked two. With her team leading, 6-1, in the bottom of the fifth, she escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam with a 5-2-3 twin killing.

Van Dyke finished 3 for 4 and set a school record with two triples. Keller added two hits to Felician's 11-hit attack. Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) and Jenna Stueber (Roosevelt Island, NY) each had a double among two hits for Concordia (9-20, 6-16).

Freshman right-hander Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA) pitched her second consecutive shutout for Felician in game two, turning in a five-inning five-hitter. She recorded four strikeouts and one walk, and got out of a based-loaded situation in the fifth unscathed to end the game.

The Golden Falcons scored in four of their five offensive innings, leading 3-0 after two before tacking on two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Only two of the eight runs given up by Clipper pitcher Amanda Ramirez (Lindenhurst, NY) were earned.

Clark blasted a pair of doubles and had three RBI and Van Dyke went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs. Leadoff batter Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, CA) was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI.

Carissa Trujillo (Fresno, CA) scored two runs in each game for the Golden Falcons.
