Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Felician College could turn its 10 combined hits into only one run in losing both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader to host Georgian Court University, 8-0 and 9-1, on Tuesday afternoon at GCU Field. Felician freshman outfielder Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, CA) was 3 for 5 plus a walk on the day.
Felician (4-26, 2-8 CACC) had six hits, all singles, and left seven runners on base in the day's opening game, which was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning by the NCAA eight-run rule. Meanwhile, Georgian Court saw five of their 12 hits go for extra bases. Lion senior second-baseman Rachel Ruch (Edison, NJ) hit for the cycle and drove in six runs.
GCU (19-15, 6-4) took a 3-0 lead on a solo home run by Kelsey Cutler (Gloucester City, NJ) leading off the second inning and a two-run shot by Ruch in the third. The Lions took full control with three runs in the fourth inning, then ended the game on Ruch's two-run single in the sixth.
Right-hander Brooke Hull (Nazareth, PA) went the distance on the shutout for GCU, striking out one batter and walking none in six innings. Teammate Dara Schroeder (Bordentown, NJ) was 3 for 4. Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA) took the loss in the circle for the Golden Falcons, yielding six earned runs on nine hits in four innings. Felician freshman infielder Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, CA) was 2 for 3.
The Lions jumped out early with three runs in the first inning of Game 2, then chased Felician starter Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA) (0-5) with a four-run second. Only four of the seven runs given up by Chase were earned as the Golden Falcons were guilty of four errors in the contest.
The GCU offense was both powerful and swift in the five-inning affair, producing five extra-base hits and eight stolen bases. Hull (14-9) earned the victory with three more scoreless innings and also went 2 for 3 with a homer, and Cutler went deep again. Meanwhile, Schroeder was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and four steals.
Sellona was 2 for 2 with a triple, swiped two bags, and scored the Golden Falcons' only run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth. Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ) had a double and a walk in her two plate appearances.
Felician returns to the road on Wednesday for a make-up CACC twinbill at Wilmington (Del.) University.
