Softball Offense Sputters In Trio Of Losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Felician College softball team was limited to one run on seven base hits in its 19 offensive innings while suffering three non-conference losses on Friday at the National Training Center. The setbacks dropped Felician to a 3-4 won-lost record on the season.

Playing in three consecutive time slots, the Golden Falcons began their day with a late-morning 2-0 loss to Cedarville University. Felician then hooked up with fellow Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference member Wilmington (Del.) University for a non-league affair, with the Wildcats earning a 6-0 victory. Davenport University of the NAIA handed the Golden Falcons a 9-1, five-inning defeat to conclude Friday's action.

Cedarville sophomore right-hander Courtnie Spain (Fairborn, Ohio) pitched a one-hit shutout against the Golden Falcons with 10 strikeouts and three walks. Spain took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before Felician sophomore Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) looped an opposite field single just out of the reach of diving Yellow Jacket right fielder Rachel Bull (Liverpool, Ill.).

Cedarville picked up both of its runs in the bottom of the second inning. Missy Kasabian (Lakeland, Fla.) beat Felician's throw to the plate on a fielder's choice grounder to open the scoring, and Shelby Young (Greenwood, Ind.) would later score from second base on a single off the glove of Golden Falcon hurler Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.).

Chase (1-1) gave up nine hits and struck out three in a complete-game effort. Kasabian finished 3 for 3 for the Yellow Jackets (1-1).

Felician could fare no better in its following contest, when it ran up against former CACC Pitcher of the Year Katie Warrington (Townsend, Del.). The Wilmington senior struck out 17 Golden Falcons, including the first nine in a row, and walked none in a three-hit shutout.

After plating two runs in the top of the second inning, the Wildcats broke the game open on a three-run double by senior Brook Berger (Ridley Park, Pa.) in the fifth. Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) (1-1) took the loss in the circle for Felician, while teammates Clark, Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.) and Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) had the Golden Falcon hits.

Davenport (9-4-1) earned its fifth consecutive victory by scoring nine times in the first three frames. Amber Getty (Wayland, Mich.) was 3 for 3 with a triple and three runs scored and K.C. Dunne (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and Ashleigh Blovsky (Brown City, Mich.) homered for the Panthers.

A sacrifice fly by Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) brought home Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J.) in the top of the third with the only Felician run of the day.
