Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior outfielder Gina Piserchio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) lined a two-out, run-scoring tie-breaking single in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Felician College to a 3-2 Game 2 victory and a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader with visiting Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday afternoon at Matera Field. Wilmington captured the day's opening game, 4-0.
Felician (5-13, 1-3) was playing its 2013 home openers. The Golden Falcons' Game 2 victory snapped an eight-game losing streak and allowed the hosts to post their first CACC triumph of the season in four tries.
In the nightcap, the teams were even at 2-2, with no one scoring since the third inning, when junior designated player Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md./Great Mills) led off the home half of the sixth with a triple to straightaway center field. Wilmington sophomore right-hander Chelsea Botsch (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) (3-6) nearly pitched out of the jam, inducing a comebacker and a strikeout to the next two hitters and then getting ahead of Piserchio with a 1-and-2 count. But Piserchio lined the next pitch to center for the eventual winning run.
Felician sophomore righty Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif./Bradshaw Christian) (2-3) worked around a leadoff single in the top of the seventh to record the final three outs and complete a five-hitter. Chase struck out three batters and walked one, throwing 62 of 97 pitches for strikes. Botsch also went the distance, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out four.
Wilmington senior Jillian Stafford (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester), the CACC's leader in runs batted in, drove an RBI double in the first inning, and teammate Skye Boris (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) blasted a solo home run in the second. Felician's comeback began with an Alyssa Banca (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) second-inning RBI single before Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) hit a tying homer in the third.
The Golden Falcons fell victim to a four-hit shutout by Wilmington senior righty Katie Warrington (Townsend, Del./Red Lion Christian) in Saturday's first contest. Warrington (7-2), who tops the conference in wins and strikeouts, fanned 12 Felician hitters while walking three. She picked up her third shutout of the season, and second against Felician.
Felician senior hurler Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) (2-7) matched Warrington zero for zero for four frames until two Golden Falcon errors led to three unearned runs for the Wildcats in the top of the fifth. Tenwolde gave up one earned run on eight hits, struck out a season-high eight batters, and walked two.
Clark went 2 for 3 with a double, and Tenwolde and catcher Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md./Harford Tech) picked up the other hits for Felician, which stranded six runners. Shelby Thompson (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) and Brook Ash (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) were each 2 for 4 and Stafford had an RBI single in the seventh for the Wildcats (12-14, 1-3).
