Offense, Pitching Unite For Two Felician Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – Felician College posted 33 base hits, including eight for extra bases, in sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from host Chestnut Hill College, 8-0 and 15-2, on Saturday afternoon at CHC Field. Felician pitchers Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif.) and Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.), meanwhile, combined to allow one earned run on nine hits in a pair of complete-game wins.

Sophomore third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) led the Golden Falcon offense with a 7 for 8 performance, plus a walk. She went 5 for 5 with two doubles and five runs batted in during Game 2, tying a Felician record for hits in a game. Junior catcher Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.) was 5 for 8 in the twinbill, while Tenwolde tossed a six-inning, four-hit shutout and launched her first career home run in Game 1.

The day's opening game was tight in the early-going, with Tenwolde (5-8) carrying a no-hitter into the fourth inning and Felician (9-15, 5-5 CACC) scratching across single runs in the second and fourth off of CHC starter Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.). The Golden Falcons started to figure out Rush in earnest in the top of the fifth, registering two runs on four hits, including a run-scoring single from Ludwigsen.

Tenwolde led off the sixth with a solo homer to left field on a 2-and-2 pitch, sparking a four-run rally. Sophomore Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) nailed a two-run round-tripper later in the frame, and the lead grew to 8-0 when a run scored on the Griffins' fourth error of the contest. In the home half of the sixth, CHC loaded the bases after two were out on a walk and two singles, but Tenwolde induced a fielder's choice grounder to end the game an inning early on the NCAA eight-run rule.

Junior designated player Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) was among four Golden Falcons with multi-hit games, going 3 for 3 with a double and scoring twice. Tenwolde struck out four batters and walked two. Rush (2-6) gave up five earned runs with one strikeout in a complete-game effort.

In addition to Parker's record at the plate, Felician junior right-fielder Alyssa Banca (East Rutherford, N.J.) was 4 for 5 with a homer and three RBI in her team's convincing Game 2 triumph. Six Golden Falcons had at least two hits in the visitors' 21-hit attack.

Leading 2-1 after one inning, Felician scored four times in the third and twice more in the fourth to pull away. The Golden Falcons took an eight-run edge on an RBI single by Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) in the fifth, but the Griffins (6-12, 3-5) extended the game on a run-scoring hit by catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) in the bottom of the stanza. After a scoreless sixth, Felician provided the exclamation point, batting around and scoring six seventh-inning runs, highlighted by Parker's three-run double. Banca was 2 for 2 in the seventh.

Chase worked all seven innings, yielding one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks to improve to 3-3. Lopez and Ludwigsen had three hits apiece, while Kehr was 2 for 4 for the Griffins.

The only other Golden Falcon to have five hits in a game was Heather Van Dyke on April 20, 2006, against Queens (N.Y.) College.
