Softball Endures Difficult Monday In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Felician College softball team lost a pair of non-conference contests during the National Training Center Spring Games on Monday. The Golden Falcons were defeated by Wayne State (Neb.) College, 9-1, in their morning game, before dropping a 9-0 decision to Lewis University in the afternoon. Both games were shortened to five innings by the NCAA eight-run rule.

Against Wayne State (2-2), senior right-hander Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif.) took to the pitching circle for Felician. Tenwolde was solid in the early going until the Wildcats struck for three runs after two were out in the bottom of the third inning. WSC junior Kylee Simpson (Riverside, Calif.) blasted a two-run triple and scored on a single by Kelcie Bormann (Preston, Iowa).

Felician (4-7) dented the scoreboard in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.). But the Golden Falcons missed an opportunity to draw closer, having the bases loaded with none out after Ludwigsen's hit but failing to score again.

WSC then ended the contest with a six-run fifth, chasing Tenwolde (2-3) in the process. Junior left fielder Vicki Nielsen (Fremont, Neb.) was 3 for 4 for the Wildcats, and Bormann drove in three runs and pitched two hitless innings for a save. Sophomore third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) was 2 for 2 for Felician.

Lewis took control early of its afternoon game against Felician by scoring seven times in the top of the second inning. The Flyers banged out six hits in the frame and took advantage of two Felician errors to record three unearned tallies. Single runs by Lewis in the fourth and fifth were enough to shorten the game.

Flyer sophomore right-hander Ali Brems (Kenosha, Wis.) went the distance on a four-hit shutout. She struck out four batters and walked one, throwing 50 of 80 pitches for strikes, and also contributed a triple to her team's 11-hit offensive attack. Felician junior Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) (1-2) also pitched a complete game, giving up five earned runs with three strikeouts.

Lewis's Jayme Hefler (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Alexis Munaco (Bloomingdale, Ill.) stroked two hits apiece. Sophomore center fielder Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) was 2 for 2 for the Golden Falcons.
