Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician College pitchers Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif./Bradshaw Christian) and Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) earned complete-game victories as the Golden Falcons swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from visiting Bloomfield College, 2-1 and 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Matera Field.
With a three-hit shutout in Game 2, senior right-hander Tenwolde (7-12) tied the Felician all-time record for shutouts, firing the eighth of her three-year senior-college career. Dara DeSocio (2005-08) and Nicole Broecker (2006-09) also have eight.
The defensive play of senior left-fielder Gina Piserchio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) saved Felician (13-21, 9-9 CACC) from having to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning of the afternoon's first game. With one out and the Golden Falcons ahead, 2-1, in the top of the seventh, Chase issued her only walk of the contest. She rebounded to strike out the next hitter, but Bloomfield junior Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, Hawaii/University Laboratory) extended the game with a hit, placing runners on first and second.
Chase then got ahead 0-and-2 before the Deacons' Ashton Corley (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) lofted a fly ball to shallow left which was tailing toward the foul line. Piserchio sprinted forward and made a diving catch to end the game and prevent Bloomfield from tying or taking the lead.
Chase (5-5), a sophomore righty, spent the entire game locked in a pitchers' duel with Bloomfield senior Ally Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (4-7). The Deacons dented the scoreboard for the only time in the first stanza on a two-out RBI double by Krystina Poloni (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River). Felician answered in the home half of the first when Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) launched a two-out double and came home on a first-pitch single from Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo).
Clark also scored Felician's go-ahead run in the third after being hit by a pitch to start the inning. With one out, she circled around to third base on Kelsi Lugwigsen's (Havre de Grace, Md./Harford Tech) single, and scored on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J./West Milford).
Chase scattered seven hits and matched a season high with six strikeouts, and Ludwigsen finished 2 for 2 plus a sacrifice. Felician sophomore Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank) stole three bases in the contest. Schraer went the distance on a six-hitter with four strikeouts and Yoshizu was 3 for 4 for the Deacons (10-15, 2-10).
Tenwolde was staked to a 5-0 edge after two innings of Game 2. Felician took advantage of three hits and two Deacon errors to tally four times in the opening frame, then received an RBI infield hit from Parker in the second. Tenwolde took care of the rest, recording three strikeouts and one walk. She faced four batters over the minimum and never allowed a Bloomfield runner to reach third base. Tenwolde tossed 82 pitches, 51 for strikes.
Van Dyke had two hits and three RBI and Parker was 2 for 2 plus a sacrifice fly with two runs and two RBI. Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) drove in a pair of runs and Clark scored twice more for Felician. Bloomfield junior Kaila Duggar (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) pitched a complete game and was charged with four earned runs on seven hits.
Felician moved into seventh place in the 14-team CACC with eight league games remaining. The top eight teams at season's end will advance to the conference tournament.
