Parker Sets Records As Softball Outslugs Bridgeport

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

STRATFORD, Conn. – Sophomore third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) went 7 for 7 and set two Felician College single-season school records as the Golden Falcons swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from the host University of Bridgeport, 7-6 and 10-9, on Wednesday afternoon at DeLuca Field.

Felician (15-27) combined for 25 base hits in the twinbill, while the Bridgeport offense collected 23. Both games saw the Golden Falcons ahead by three runs after 6 ½ innings before holding off furious Purple Knight rallies in the bottom of the seventh.

Parker picked up seven hits in a twinbill for the second time this season. During Felician's Game 1 four-run rally in the top of the third, she sent a go-ahead two-run double to center field. The shot was Parker's 54th base hit and 15th two-bagger of 2013, both breaking school standards. The mark of 53 hits was shared by Lisa Stewart (2002) and Heather Van Dyke (2007), while Jenna Krowl had 14 doubles in 2006.

Felician senior pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif.) (8-14) battled through five innings, scattering nine hits and departing with a 5-4 lead. That score held into the seventh, when the Golden Falcons picked up two insurance runs on a two-out, two run home run by sophomore Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.). The blast proved important when Purple Knight third-sacker Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) came up with a one-out, two run single in the bottom of the seventh. But Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.) then induced consecutive grounders to earn her first collegiate save.

Parker finished 4 for 4 and Clark and Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) added two hits apiece for the visitors. Bridgeport (17-26) received three hits and three RBI from Dunn and a solo home run from Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland).

The Golden Falcons smashed six extra-base hits in the nightcap, but gave up a 6-1 lead before recovering for the victory. Chase (6-9) pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits, striking out seven batters, and walking two.

A six-run fifth-inning uprising gave the Purple Knights a 7-6 advantage. Felician tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Gina Piserchio (West Orange, N.J.), and the game entered the seventh tied at 7-7.

Clark led off the Felician half of the seventh with her second double of the game. With Parker already 3 for 3 in the contest, she received an intentional walk from the Purple Knights. Two batters later, Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J.) brought home both runners with a triple. Katie Heflin's (Ecalon, Calif.) single then plated Van Dyke.

Chase retired the first two hitters on groundouts in the bottom of the frame. But following a double, UB freshman McKenzie Shea (Spokane Valley, Wash.) hit her second home run of the game to pull the hosts within 10-9. Chase recovered to strike out a pinch-hitter and complete the Felician sweep.

Piserchio went 3 for 4, while Parker scored three runs and drove in two. Heflin added two hits and two RBI. Shea went 4 for 5 with five RBI, and ended up with five this and seven runs batted in for the day.
