Softball Breaks Out Big Bats In Sweeping Nyack

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College softball team totaled 24 hits, including 12 for extra bases, in winning both ends of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader from visiting Nyack College, 10-4 and 9-1, on Friday afternoon at Matera Field.

Felician sophomore first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) went 5 for 6 on the day with three runs scored and three runs batted in. She lined a double and a home run in the afternoon's opening contest, and had another double in Game 2. Classmate Taylor Parker (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo) was 4 for 6 with three doubles, taking over the CACC lead in that category with 13.

The Golden Falcons (11-17, 7-7 CACC) passed the halfway point of their CACC schedule. They evened their league record and moved into seventh place on a tightly bunched conference table. Felician also jumped into third place in the 14-school CACC in batting average, hitting .309 as a team.

Felician senior right-handed pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) (6-9) went the distance on a five-hitter in Game 1. In seven innings, she struck out four batters and walked two. She also opened the scoring by blasting a three-run home run in the bottom of the second as part of a 2 for 3 performance.

The Golden Falcons picked up two runs in the third on Clark's solo homer and an RBI triple by Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md./Great Mills). The hosts then broke the game open with five runs on five hits in the fourth. A two-run triple by Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) highlighted the rally.

Nyack (4-15, 0-14) extended the game by picking up four fifth-inning runs, taking advantage of two Felician errors and a two-run single by Becky Ferry (Rhinbeck, N.Y.). Freshman Tori Flemming (Plano, Texas) pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief, but the Warriors could not generate any further offense off of Tenwolde.

Clark finished 3 for 3, Parker had a pair of doubles and scored twice, and Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) (2 for 4, RBI) joined Tenwolde with multi-hit games for Felician. Nyack catcher Tesla Murillo (Indio, Calif.) was 2 for 2.

Felician stole seven bases in the nightcap, including a first-and-third double steal in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the NCAA 8-run rule. The Golden Falcons scored in all five of their offensive frames, tallying exactly two times in each of the first four.

Felician right-handers Bradburn and Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif./Bradshaw Christian) combined on a three-hitter, with Chase (4-4) earning the victory with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief. She struck out four and walked none. Flemming (0-1) made her first start of the season in the circle for Nyack, also working two frames.

Felician shortstop and leadoff hitter Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank) went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI. Her swipe of home plate on the back end of a double steal ended the game. Clark (2 RBI), Parker (2 SB) and Gina Piserchio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) (2 SB) were each 2 for 3 for the Golden Falcons, who banged out 12 hits in each game.

Nyack's Chelsea Macaluso (Charlotte, N.C.) lined a first-inning RBI single.

Felician quickly returns to CACC action, traveling to Holy Family University for a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Helen Randle Park in Newtown, Pa.
