Box Score 2 NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Felician College softball team went down to a pair of one-run defeats on Saturday afternoon, losing to host Holy Family University, 1-0 and 4-3, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Helen Randle Park.
Felician sophomore shortstop Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) had a two-run triple in the top of the third inning of Game 2. The blast was her ninth career three-bagger, giving her the Golden Falcon all-time record in that category. In just 248 career at-bats, she surpassed the mark of eight set by Heather Van Dyke from 2005-08. Lopez also tied the school record of six triples in a season held by Justine Mateo in 2010.
In the nightcap, Lopez's triple and an RBI single by Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J.) gave Felician (11-19, 7-9) a three-run inning and a 3-1 edge after three frames. That score held until the bottom of the sixth, when Holy Family's Samantha Borelli (West Berlin, N.J.) and Deanna Myers (Warminster, Pa.) began the inning with consecutive home runs off of Golden Falcon starting pitcher Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.).
With the scored tied, 3-3, Felician lifted Chase in favor of senior right-hander Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif.) (6-11). After a single, a Golden Falcon error and passed ball placed runners on second and third, still with none out. With the infield in, Tenwolde induced a pair of groundouts, but HFU freshman Christine Casey (Newark, Del.) followed with a go-ahead RBI double. Tiger reliever Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa.) (2-3) retired Felician in order in the seventh.
Chilutti earned the victory with five innings of scoreless, two-hit relief. She struck out five batters and walked one, and set down the final eight hitters she faced. Lopez, Van Dyke and Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) had two hits apiece for Felician.
Tenwolde took a hard-luck loss in the day's opening game. She fired a four-hitter and faced four batters over the minimum in a complete-game effort. Holy Family junior righty Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa.) pitched a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk, herself throwing to only four batters over the minimum.
Felician put two runners on base with two outs in the first inning before Alligood got out of trouble with a groundout. HFU (15-11, 10-2) then picked up the game's only run in the bottom of the first on a Borelli single followed by a Myers triple.
Golden Falcon junior designated player Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) led off the fifth with a double, but was nailed on an accurate relay throw trying to extend to a triple. Felician threatened one more time in the seventh, when catcher Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.) lined a one-out single. On a groundout, HFU tried to throw behind pinch-runner Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), but a wild toss left Quintanilla on third with two away. Alligood completed her shutout by retiring the next hitter on a grounder to second base.
Felician plays a non-league twinbill on Monday afternoon at Kutztown University.
