Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Felician College junior first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) went 4 for 7, including the 100th base hit of her career, but the Golden Falcons lost their first two games of 2014 on Friday morning during the Dot Richardson Spring Games. Felician opened the season with a six-inning, 9-1 setback to Quincy University at the National Training Center, and followed with a 6-5 loss to Lock Haven University.
Against Quincy, the Golden Falcons, the designated visiting team, scored in their first offensive inning of the season. Leadoff batter Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif.) drew a walk, and circled all the way to third base on a sacrifice by Chelsea DeGuzman (Clermont, Fla.). When the throw to third was wild, Williams scored on the play.
But Quincy (5-2) went ahead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third. Alanna Viken (Mazon, Ill.) had a two-run double and Jill Suellentrop (St. Peters, Mo.) a two-run single in the frame. The Hawks tacked on a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth before ending the game with a two-run sixth.
Quincy junior right-hander Murphi Armstrong (Streator, Ill.) held the Felician offense to five hits in a complete-game effort. Felician senior catcher Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.) was 3 for 3 with a double, while Clark also doubled and Williams had a triple. Senior Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) started in the circle for the Golden Falcons and gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings.
Clark became the 12th player in Felician history, and third active Golden Falcon, to reach 100 hits in her first at-bat against Lock Haven later Friday. With her team trailing, 2-0, she led off the bottom of the second inning with a double, and scored on a fielding error three batters later. Clark finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Teammates Ludwigsen (109, 8th) and Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) (108, T-9th) are also in Felician's 100-hit club.
Felician took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif.) and a run-scoring single from Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.). But the Bald Eagles rallied for four unearned runs after two were out in the fifth, including a tie-breaking three-run triple from freshman second-baseman Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa.).
Felician took advantage of two LHU errors to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. But Bald Eagle reliever Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa.) recorded a strikeout with the tying and go-ahead runs on base, and pitched scoreless sixth and seventh frames to earn a save.
Felician junior righty Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.) struck out four batters and yielded 10 hits in a complete-game pitching effort. Parker had a double as the Golden Falcons were again held to five hits. Freshman catcher McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa.) was 3 for 4 for LHU.
