Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore third-baseman Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) went 4 for 5 with five runs batted in and freshman shortstop Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif.) drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the Felician College softball team earned a 12-11 victory over Ashland University in Game 1 of the teams' non-conference doubleheader during the Dot Richardson Spring Games on Sunday morning at the National Training Center.
Lopez's three doubles in the contest were a Felician single-game record.
After garnering 15 hits in the opener, Felician (2-4) fell victim to a no-hitter in a 9-0 Game 2 loss to the Eagles.
Game 1 was a wild affair during which every time the Golden Falcons, the designated visiting team, put up multiple runs in an inning, Ashland would do the same in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles led, 7-6, after one inning and 9-8 after two. The teams were deadlocked, 11-11, after playing five stanzas.
Felician junior catcher Mercedes Montanez (Vista, Calif.) led off the top of the seventh with a double, her second two-bagger of the game and Felician's fifth. Kelsi Ludwigsen (Havre de Grace, Md.) sacrificed pinch-runner Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif.) to third base, and Williams scored on Duenas' groundout.
Golden Falcon senior right-handed pitcher Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) (2-1) lasted the entire contest, giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits. In the seventh, she induced a ground ball to short and snared a line drive before allowing a single, returning Ashland to the top of its batting order. Bradburn however, retired the side on a grounder to second base.
Montanez was 4 for 5 and scored three runs, and Felician's Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J.) added two hits apiece. Ashland (3-1) received three hits from junior center fielder Taylor Menhart (Twinsburg, Ohio).
Ashland continued the offensive fireworks in Game 2, but Eagle junior left-hander Sarah Alley (Milford, Ohio) made sure the Golden Falcons did not do the same. Alley fired a seven-inning no-hitter, striking out two batters and walking one.
Alley faced only one batter over the minimum. In the bottom of the first inning, Clark reached second base on a throwing error, but was left stranded. In the seventh, pinch-hitter Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk, then was erased on a double play. Ashland second-baseman Cayla Seidler (Massillon, Ohio) made the grab on a line drive off the bat of Montanez to secure the no-hitter.
Alley batted third in the Eagle line-up and had two hits plus a sacrifice fly. Ashland leadoff hitter Seidler was 3 for 4 with a double and scored twice, and Jamie Weber (Orient, Ohio) was 2 for 3, scored three runs, and had a two-run triple in the seventh.
Junior Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.) went the distance in the circle for Felician, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits.
