Box Score 2 BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Junior right-hander Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif.) pitched a one-hit shutout as Felician College defeated host Bloomfield College, 3-0, in Game 1 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Clarks Pond South. Bloomfield came back for a 6-2 win in Game 2.
In the opener, Chase (4-7) tossed her first complete-game shutout of the season and the third of her career. She struck out four batters, walked three and hit one. However, she spent much of the afternoon locked in a duel with Bloomfield freshman righty Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls, Pa.)
Chase escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out and one on, Wilson singled for the Deacons' only hit of the contest. Chase issued another walk before third-baseman Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.) fielded a grounder and threw home for the force play. A ground ball to second ended the threat.
The game remained scoreless through five frames before Felician junior Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) singled to lead off the top of the sixth. Sellona was sacrificed to second base, and, two batters later, came home on a base hit up the middle by junior Chelsea DeGuzman (Clermont, Fla.). The Golden Falcons tacked on two runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Sellona and a sacrifice fly from Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.).
Sellona and Lopez were each 2 for 4 for Felician (10-13, 2-6 CACC). Wilson also pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
The Deacons (13-7, 6-2) scored in each of their first five at-bats of Game 2. They took the lead for good in the bottom of the second, breaking a 1-1 tie with a pair of runs on RBI singles by Angie Yoshizu (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and Aubrey Orr (Gallup, N.M.)
Felician pulled to within 3-2 in the third on an RBI single by Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), but the Golden Falcons left seven runners on base in the last four innings, off of three Bloomfield pitchers, and nine for the game. Freshman second-baseman Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Fla.) was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Felician.
Deacon freshman lefty Stephanie Miller (Temecula, Calif.) earned the victory in the pitching circle, working 4 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on four hits. Yoshizu was 3 for 3, and Wilson went 2 for 4 with two RBI and pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) (3-4) started and gave up five earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings for the Golden Falcons.
