Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – Post University jumped out to early multiple-run leads in both games en route to sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader from host Felician College, 7-3 and 11-4, on Thursday afternoon at Matera Field. Despite not striking out a batter in either game, Post also did not commit an error in the twinbill.
In Game 1, Post junior right-hander Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) limited Felician to four hits in a complete-game effort. The Eagles struck for four runs in the top of the first inning, using run-scoring singles by Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa Academy) and Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and a Golden Falcon outfield error.
Post led, 5-0, after four innings before Felician (13-17, 5-10) tallied three times in the fifth. Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) put the hosts on the scoreboard with a one-out RBI single, and freshman Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) capped the rally with a pinch-hit two-run double. Derby (5-2), however, escaped further damage, and retired her final seven hitters of the contest. The Eagles tacked on two runs in the seventh inning for the final margin.
Williams went 2 for 4 for Felician, while four Eagles enjoyed multiple-hit games. Post freshman first-baseman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) had a double and a triple. Golden Falcon pitcher Macy Chase (Sacramento, Calif./Bradshaw Christian) also tossed a complete game, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Post (14-14, 10-4) scored in each of its first five at-bats of Game 2, leading 5-3 after two innings before taking control with a three-run third. Seven Felician errors in the game led to five unearned Eagle runs.
Ragazzone (3-3) pitched five innings of one-run relief and was credited with the victory. Erb drove in two runs, and Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) scored three times for the visitors. Udris was 4 for 8 on the day, while Erb went 3 for 7 with four RBI.
Felician junior designated player Mercedes Montanez (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) was 3 for 3 and scored twice in the nightcap. Classmate Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) went 3 for 4 with an RBI, and senior right fielder Alyssa Banca (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton) drove in a pair of runs.
