Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College pitching staff combined to allow only nine base hits in winning both ends of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader, 7-1 and 6-1, from visiting Post University on Saturday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician starters John Holland (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) and Stephen Paladino (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) yielded two hits apiece in picking up victories.
Felician senior shortstop Aaron Brill (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) went 4 for 9 with three runs scored on the day. Teammate Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) scored four times, and freshman Brennan Price (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was 3 for 5 and drove in three runs.
Felician (17-13, 9-3 CACC), ranked No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers' poll, broke through for a run in the top of the first inning of Game 1. Leadoff man Gabriel Fellin (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) drew a walk, stole second base, and advanced to third on a groundout. Two batters later, Fellin scored on an errant pickoff throw.
The Golden Falcons broke the game open with three fifth-inning tallies. After Joe Petosa's (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) RBI single, the hosts loaded the bases with one out. A walk to J.R. Meneses (Lake Worth, Fla./Zion Lutheran) forced in a run, and Chris Faber (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) followed with a single to center field.
Holland (3-3), meanwhile, worked only one inning, the sixth, in which he allowed multiple baserunners. In seven shutout frames, he gave up two singles, struck out one batter and walked three. He departed with a 5-0 lead, having thrown 97 pitches, after second-baseman Ralph Caccavale (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) ended the top of the seventh with a diving catch of a pop-up that he converted into a double play.
Eagle sophomore right-hander Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) (2-2) struck out nine Golden Falcons in five innings of work. He was charged with three earned runs on four hits and issued six walks. Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Santo Domingo) had an RBI single in the ninth, the last of Post's five hits. Brill was 2 for 5 and scored twice for Felician.
Paladino (2-2) took a comebacker off his foot in the first inning of Game 2, but stayed on. It turned into one of only two hits he allowed in six innings. Paladino struck out a season-high eight batters while walking two. The only blemish on his line was an RBI triple by Kevin Fearon (Williston Park, N.Y./Holy Trinity) in the fifth.
The Golden Falcons once again jumped out to an early advantage, plating two runs in the first inning and another in the third. Price picked up a two-out, two-run single in the opening stanza, and De Jong came home on a balk in the third.
Jerry Vasto (Atlantic Highlands, N.J./Henry Hudson Regional) pitched the seventh for Felician, and fellow junior Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) followed with two scoreless frames. Price was on base four times with two singles and two walks, and Brill and De Jong added two hits apiece for the hosts.
Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) had two of the Eagles' four base hits. Post fell to 10-13-1 overall and 6-5 in CACC play.
