Clark's Walk-Off Hit Lets Softball Split With Dominican

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Junior first-baseman Ciera Clark's (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) one-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning scored classmate Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) with the winning run as Felician College captured Game 2 of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball doubleheader with visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon at Matera Field. Felician gained a split of the twinbill after Dominican won the opening game, 14-8, also in eight innings.

In the nightcap, Felician senior pitcher Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md./Great Mills) (7-6) carried a four-hit shutout and a 6-0 lead into the seventh inning. Dominican, however, used seven hits to post a six-run rally to tie the game. After the first two Chargers reached on infield singles, Lisa Bouffard (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) blasted a two-run triple to right field. One out later, Bouffard came home on an RBI single by fellow freshman Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif./Serra).

After another infield hit and a flyout, Dominican sophomore Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif./Leigh) kept the visitors alive, sending a two-run double to center field to make the score 6-5. Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) followed with a game-tying single to right, bringing home pinch-runner Caitlyn Hults (Carlstadt, N.J./Immaculate Conception).

Charger reliever Emily Larsen (Midloathian, Ill./Oak Forest) retired the Golden Falcons in the bottom of the seventh, and Bradburn worked around a two-out single to pitch a scoreless eighth. In the home half of the eighth, Williams singled to left field with one out. Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) followed by beating out a slow grounder to shortstop, preventing Larsen (2-6) from intentionally walking Clark, the CACC's leading hitter. Clark hit an 0-and-1 offering over the head of the center fielder to end the day's activities.

Clark finished 3 for 5 with two RBI, tying her own Felician record with her 40th run batted in of the season. Sellona also logged three hits and Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank) had two triples for Felician (16-18, 8-11 CACC). Bradburn allowed 12 hits over eight innings, struck out two and walked none. Collins, Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas/Taft) had two hits each for the Chargers.

The Golden Falcons erased a 6-0 deficit in Game 1, including a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh that tied the game at 8-8 and forced extra frames. Felician benefited from two Charger two-out miscues -- an error on Kelsi Ludwigsen's (Havre de Grace, Md./Harford Tech) grounder that plated two runs, and a passed ball which allowed Ludwigsen to move to second base -- before Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) knotted the game with an RBI single.

Dominican, however, rebounded with five hits in the top of the eighth, and used two Felician errors to come up with six runs. Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) drove in the go-ahead run with a single, and the first seven Chargers to come to bat in the inning reached base. Brianna Arends (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) highlighted the rally with a two-run single.

Larsen earned the win in relief for Dominican (10-19, 8-7), yielding one earned run with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Bouffard drove in four runs, and Ragazzo was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Arends and catcher Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) also collected three hits in the Chargers' 15-hit attack.

Lopez had one of her three triples on the day and Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) was 2 for 4 for the Golden Falcons. Felician's eight runs were scored by eight different players, including a pair of pinch-runners.

Dominican pitchers did not walk a batter in the day's 16 innings.
