Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – Felician College senior second-baseman Halei Van Dyke (West Milford, N.J.) hit a solo home run for her team's only offense in a 10-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference softball loss to host Caldwell College on Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. Caldwell (20-2, 10-1 CACC) is ranked No. 14 in the most recent national NCAA Division II coaches poll.
The contest was scheduled as the first game of a CACC doubleheader. Game 2 was halted due to rain after two innings with the teams tied, 1-1. The game will be made up from the beginning on a date to be determined.
In the completed game, the Cougars scored in all five of their offensive at-bats, out-hitting Felician, 12-4. Caldwell junior catcher Alyssa Calderon (Fontana, Calif.) put her team ahead for good with a one-out, two-run double in the first off of Felician right-hander Tori Bradburn (Ridge, Md.) (4-5).
After tallying two runs in the second inning and one in the third, Caldwell pushed its lead to 8-0 by scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth. Kristen Knorr (Monroeville, N.J.) came home on the back end of a first-and-third double steal. Megan Fryday (San Marcos, Calif.) followed with a run-scoring single, and came home on an RBI double by Nicole Velardi (Belleville, N.J.).
Meanwhile, Cougar sophomore righty Amber Padilla (Chino, Calif.) was working on a two-hit shutout. Van Dyke temporarily extended the game when she led off the top of the fifth with her third home run of the season, but the end came with none out in the home half of the fifth when freshman Lauren Frye (Jupiter, Fla.) answered with a two-run blast.
Padilla (7-2) settled for a complete-game four hitter, striking out four batters while walking one. Friday and designated player Gracie Sullivan (Elmhurst, Ill.) collected two hits apiece for the Cougars, who stroked five doubles.
Bradburn was charged with eight earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.), Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) and Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif.) picked up the other base hits for the Golden Falcons (11-15, 3-8).
