Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif.) became the all-time hits leader for the Felician College softball program during the Golden Falcons' 7-6 victory over host Goldey-Beacom College in Game 1 of the teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Jackson Athletics Complex. Goldey-Beacom came back to take Game 2, 4-3.
Clark entered the day with 167 career base hits, tied with Heather Van Dyke (2005-08) for the Felician record. She broke the deadlock with a run-scoring single through the right side in the top of the first inning of Game 1. She finished the game 2 for 3, one of three Golden Falcons with a pair of hits.
Trailing, 4-2, Felician plated four runs in the fourth, using only two hits and taking advantage of three Lightning errors. Senior third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia) capped the rally with a go-ahead two-run triple. GBC, however, came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score, 6-6. Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, Pa.) lined an RBI double with two outs and scored on a single by Charlee King (New Castle, Del.)
In the fifth, Felician sophomore Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif.) reached on an error and advanced to third base on a single by Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif.). Senior Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) came through with a sacrifice fly to put Felician ahead for good, with Duenas crossing the plate just before Lopez was erased on the basepaths.
Golden Falcon freshman right-hander Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y.) (6-6) held the Lightning offense at bay the rest of the game. She escaped a two-on, out-out jam in the fifth, pitched a perfect sixth, and allowed a two-out single in the seventh before a diving catch by left fielder Jeannette Roldan (Hesperia, Calif.) ended the contest. Roldan and Lopez joined Clark with two hits apiece.
Owens scattered 11 hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out two batters and walked none. Brandle went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBI for Goldey-Beacom (4-17-1, 2-12 CACC).
The Lightning erased a 2-0 deficit with four fifth-inning runs and held on to win Game 2. Asia Ellis (Marlton, N.J.) highlighted the uprising with a go-ahead two-run double. Felician (9-14, 6-6) left 10 runners on base in the contest.
After escaping a two-on, one-out jam in the sixth, GBC reliever Natalie Mickles (Dingman's Ferry, Pa.) retired the first two Golden Falcons in the seventh. But a walk and an error put the go-ahead run on base, and an RBI single by Duenas pulled the visitors to within 4-3. Lopez followed with a deep line drive, but it was gloved in center field for the final out.
Felician senior lefty Chelsea DeGuzman (Clermont, Fla.) (0-4) went the distance on a six-hitter in defeat, and teammates Duenas and Lopez had two hits each. Goldey-Beacom sophomore Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, Calif.) (1-1) earned the victory with two innings of hitless relief work.
In addition to the hits record, Clark is also Felician's career leader in doubles, home runs, runs scored, runs batted in, total bases, and hit batsmen.
Felician hosts first-place Caldwell University in CACC action on Monday.
