Felician Softball Celebrates Senior Day With Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College softball team celebrated its Senior Day by winning both ends of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with visiting Nyack College, 10-3 and 7-1, on Friday afternoon at Matera Field. Senior third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) had a triple in each game for the Golden Falcons.

With the victories, Felician (12-17, 8-8) moved into a virtual three-way tie for eighth place and the final playoff spot in the CACC. The Golden Falcons have 10 league games remaining.

Felician scored in each of its first five offensive innings of Game 1 in support of senior left-handed pitcher Chelsea DeGuzman (Clermont, Fla./South Lake). In turn, DeGuzman (2-4) went the distance on a five-hitter, requiring only 68 pitches to get through seven innings. She gave up two earned runs on five hits, struck out one batter, and walked one.

A two-run single by sophomore Jackie Duenas (Riverside, N.J./Arlington) highlighted the Golden Falcons' three-run first inning. Felician took advantage of Nyack errors to plate a run in the second and two more in the third, and Duenas drove in another run with a fourth-inning single. A two-run triple by Parker capped a three-run fifth-inning rally for Felician and completed the game's scoring.

Duenas and Parker each collected two hits and three RBI and senior shortstop Aimee Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank) scored three runs in the contest. Katalina Padilla (Las Cruces, N.M.) drove in two runs for the Warriors (5-26, 3-17).

Felician once again had a productive first inning in the nightcap, sending nine hitters to the plate and scoring five times. Senior first-baseman Ciera Clark (Granite Bay, Calif./Del Oro) jump-started the rally with a two-run triple, and scored almost immediately on a Parker three-bagger. The Golden Falcons picked up an unearned run in the fourth before freshman Alicia DeFlaviis (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) singled home a run in the fifth.

Felican freshman right-hander Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) made the early offense stand up. Owens (7-8) shut down the Warriors for five frames, allowing two hits and three walks. Sophomore Desiree Balistrieri (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) collected three strikeouts in two innings of relief work.

Senior second-baseman Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Conception-Lodi) was 2 for 3 with a double and scored twice for the Golden Falcons. Duenas scored two runs and stole three bases.

Nyack designated player Kim Yano (Blauvelt, N.Y.) was 2 for 4, including an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. Warrior leadoff batter Elyanna Rivas (Los Angeles, Calif.) was 1 for 1 plus three walks.

Nine Felician seniors – Clark, DeGuzman, Katie Heflin (Escalon, Calif./Escalon), Lopez, Mercedes Montanez (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista), Parker, Quintanilla, Zharde Sellona (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) and Haylee Williams (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) – were honored in postgame Senior Day ceremonies.

The Golden Falcons play another CACC doubleheader on Saturday when they travel to the University of the Sciences.
