Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Felician College softball team was limited to seven base hits in dropping both ends of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 6-0 and 6-0, to visiting Wilmington (Del.) University on an overcast Tuesday afternoon at Matera Field.
Wilmington (18-11, 9-5 CACC) has won six consecutive games, including its last five by shutout. Felician saw a five-game winning streak ended in Game 1. Senior shortstop Kelsey Doherty (Harbeson, Del./Sussex Tech) and junior right-fielder Taylor Rizzotte (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) each had four hits on the day for the Wildcats.
Wilmington senior right-hander Chelsea Botsch (Symrna, Del./Smyrna) (8-5) pitched a four-hit shutout in the day's opening game. She struck out eight batters and walked one. The Wildcats pulled away gradually, scoring once in the first inning on an RBI double by Cambria Ziemba (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) before plating a pair of runs on a Felician throwing error in the third.
Doherty stroked an RBI single in the top of the fifth. The Wildcats completed the game's scoring in the sixth when Kaitlyn Slater (Harrington, Del./Woodbridge) came home on the back end of a double steal and Rizzotte beat out an RBI infield single. Doherty and Rizzotte each went 3 for 3 in Wilmington's 10-hit attack.
Felician freshman right-hander Ashley Owens (Lockport, N.Y./Southpoint) struck out a season-high nine batters in defeat. Just two of the runs she allowed in a complete-game effort were earned. Senior third-baseman Taylor Parker (Surrey, British Columbia/Semiahmoo) was 3 for 3 for the Golden Falcons (8-13, 5-5).
Doherty delieved the big-blow in Game 2, a three-run double to cap Wilmington's four-run second inning. The Wildcats tacked on two runs in the fifth on a run-scoring double from Ashley Bennett (Laurel, Del./Delmar) and a Danielle Bradley (Delmar, Del./Delmar) RBI single.
Sophomore right-hander Brooke Lachette (Aldan, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) allowed three hits, all singles, in tossing a shutout. She struck out five batters and walked one. In only one inning, the fifth, did Felician put multiple runners on base.
Amanda Lopez (Riverbank, Calif./Riverbank), Jackie Duenas (Riverside, Calif./Arlington) and Natalie Quintanilla (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Immaculate Conception) picked up the Golden Falcon safeties. Bradley finished 2 for 3 and Doherty drove in three runs for Wilmington.
